Wamboin Rural Fire Brigade

Would you like to join the Wamboin brigade?

We are looking for volunteers to help out in many areas, including:

  • Active firefighting and assisting other agencies (Ambulance, SES, Fire and Rescue)
  • Community engagement
  • Training and education
  • Administration
  • Radios and communications
  • Logistics (getting stuff to where we need it)
  • Catering
  • Event/Fund-raising support (planning, car parking...)
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Station upkeep

If any of these sound good to you, you live in Wamboin or the parts of Bywong or Sutton Park in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council area and are you older than 12 years, we would love to hear from you!

Joining the brigade will involve:

  • Filling out the application form.
  • Attending an informal interview with senior representatives of the brigade to help determine if the brigade is right for you and if you will fit in with the brigade.
  • Undergoing a police check.
  • Basic induction training.

Personal protection equipment will be supplied by the RFS, along with training for your choice of operational or support roles in the brigade.

Junior Membership (Ages 12-18)

Discover the Wamboin RFS Junior Program, tailored for young members aged 12 to 17. With a focus in fire safety, emergency preparedness and community service, members not only learn firefighting techniques but also cultivate leadership and teamwork skills.

Mentored by experienced adult volunteers, activities encompass fire prevention, navigation, first aid, and equipment familiarisation. A program to foster personal growth and life skills while instilling a sense of community.
